North Side of Williams Island

After passing the western tip of Williams Island, about ˝ mile or so of flat water takes us to the northern section of Williams Island Dam, built in 1905.

Higher than its counterpart on the southside, this portion of Williams Dam has no notch or portage route. The best strategy is to line your boat over the dam.  Here, at a spot not accessible to vehicles or any but the hardiest of pedestrians, is a secluded spot of exceptional beauty.

With a little effort, we can get out and go to the feeder canal for the settling basin. The canal “bank” is concrete and makes an excellent walkway.  The scenery from this “walkway” is spectacular.

With the magic of a virtual trip, we can return to the upstream end of Williams Island and take the river right route to the south side of the island.
