Ms. Jones was the first of three faculty people from
the small, liberal arts college of St. Paul's, in Lawrenceville, VA, who worked in my laboratory
during the summer. She, like Drs. Adesuyi and Bale who came after her,
was supported by an NIH grant (Minority Hypertension Research Development
Summer Program) in which I participated which was intended for faculty
from minority institutions.

Dr. Haberl was fully supported by an award from the
German government (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) for a year of study
in our laboratory. He now has both clinical and research responsibilities
at his home institution in Munich where he is a Professor of Neurology

On returning from his first visit to our laboratory
(1987-89), Dr. Zhang became Chair of Pharmacology at Shandong Medical
University in the People's Republic of China. He was supported in part
by visiting scholars awards from the People's Republic of China.

Dr. Yoshida is a Japanese neurosurgeon with a strong
interest in biochemical mechanisms of brain injury. He is currently a

Dr. Shivachar studied brain P-450 metabolism of arachidonic
acid and received a
2-year post-doctoral fellowship award from the American Heart Association,
Virginia Affiliate, for the period 1989-1991.
1993 - 1996, Assistant Professor (collateral, non-tenure track)
Dr. Shivachar was a collateral Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and
Toxicology working in collaboration with Dr. Ellis on P-450 metabolism
of arachidonic acid in brain and brain-derived cultured cells and also
on cellular and molecular mechanisms of action of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol
and anandamide. He is now an Assistant Professor at Texas Southern University
with a joint appointment at NASA.

While at VCU, Dr. Rzigalinski examined the intracellular
calcium responses of brain-derived cells in culture to stretch-induced
injury. In 2000, while at VCU, Dr. Rzigalinski received a 5-year one million
dollar R01 from the NIH for the conduct of her own, independent research
project.

Dr. Hoffman studied the biochemical mechanisms of traumatic
brain injury, with focus on the potential role of isoprostanes and their
effect on cerebral blood flow.

College of Virginia of VCU. She studied the response of tissue-cultured
P53-deficient astrocytoma cells to traumatic injury. She now practices neurosurgery and pediatric neurology in Wilmington, DE.
