018.2 Spring and Neap Tides

The Sun raises tides on the Earth just as the Moon does, although not as large.

When the solar and lunar tides work together they produce an extra strong tide, called a spring tide.

When the solar and lunar tides work against each other they produce an unusually weak tide, called a neap tide.
