Between Frames (2005)

Between Frames on YouTube

This quirky animation explores the movement occurring in one, defined area of the garden during a nine-month period. The experience is of a photographer entering the garden, searching the space then riveting onto a specific spot, and recording it over time from two angles. What unfolds is a cycle that refuses the regularity of a time-lapse sequence, but instead reveals the spontaneous, unpredictable motion that is real life.

Between Frames was shot entirely on 35mm slide film, over a period of nine months in the animator's past garden. Photographs were then digitally sequenced and animated.

Falling Back to Earth: Tomatillo (2000)

Animation by Pamela Turner; Sound design and engineering by Bob Rupe

“Tomatillo” is an open narrative based on the imagined reality of two tomatillos (Mexican husk tomatoes), and is inspired by the mystery found in everyday gardens. The viewer enters their world via a photograph, follows as they play, and then witnesses each tomatillo following its individual destiny. Tomatillo is created entirely in 3D, using Softimage 3D Extreme, with a digitally created sound track. Avid Xpress was used for compositing and editing.
