Chapter 5
Cadential-tonic 6/4
#35 Valses Sentimentales - Schubert
Listen: .mid .mp3
- Analyze. Include key, lead-sheet symbols, roman numerals, cadences,
phrases, etc.
- The soprano note on the downbeat of m1 (f) is either a non-chord
tone (we haven't covered this one yet) or an additional member
of the V7 chord, the 9th!
- Notice the placement of the cadential-tonic 6/4 chord. Does
it occur on a weak or strong beat? How does it resolve? What chord
is used to proceed the I 6/4?
#36 Mazurka - Chopin
Listen: .mid .mp3
- Analyze. Include key, lead-sheet symbols, roman numerals, cadences,
phrases, etc.
- There are a couple of interesting non-chord tones to look at
here. Check out m2, b2 soprano. How's it approached and how's
it left? And the e naturals in the bass (m4 and m8). What's up
with these?
- Notice the placement of the cadential-tonic 6/4 chord. Does
