I am an Instructional Technology Specialist in Richmond, Virginia, working in the field of adult basic education. I am passionate about helping underserved and often disenfranchised adults accomplish their educational, career, and personal goals and believe the effective use of educational technology can be essential to bettering the lives of these adults.

Over the last five years I have developed and managed a number of technology integration initiatives for the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center the Virginia Literacy Institute, and Department of Social Services, and the Virginia Department of Education Office of Adult Education and Literacy. I have also worked as an adult education instructor, curriculum developer, and trainer. In addition to my work integrating technology into the field of ABE, I am also interested in game-based learning, alternate reality games, augmented reality games, virtual worlds, and other innovative uses of technology. There are so many opportunities to find ways to use these tools in new and unexpected ways.

In 2008 I received a doctorate in Instructional Technology from the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education. In a former life I instructed inmates at a local jail, made burritos, taught software courses, washed dishes, and worked as a piemaker, kennel cleaner, filmmaker, and disc jockey. Not in that order. See my CV for a list of my more recent professional endeavors.

In addition to work stuff, I also run, make short films, and play in the concept cover band Miserable Space Cowboys. I am currently leading an effort to build a dog park in my community.
