The first case is an example of a normal technetium thyroid scan.
The second case is another technetium thyroid scan that shows the use of a 57Co marker, identifying the sternal notch. In addition, there is abnormal uptake below the left lobe, later shown to be thyroid carinoma.
The third case is an example of an123I thyroid scan. The disease that is present is known as Plummer's disease, in which there is a single hot nodule identified in the base of the right lobe. Note how the hot nodule has all but shut down normal thyroid function.
Here is another technetium thyroid scan. This is an example of multinodular disease, in which there are numerous cold and warm nodules.
This is a good example of a single nodule cold in 123I and hot in 99mTc. What disease do you think is present?
Patient was given 131I and had a 9% uptake at 24 hours. 16.71 mCi of pertechnetate was given which demonstrates a ectopic sublingual thryoid
