Ragtime Concert 2008.10This remarkable concert production of Ragtime was performed with only a handful of rehearsals for the grand opening of Stage 1 theatre company, and starred an absolutely unbelievable array of Richmond musical talent. I served as the live and recording sound engineer, with just enough time and resources to succeed. Featured here is my soundtrack syncronized with video of the exceptional Debra Wagoner singing "Goodbye My Love." |
The 1940's Radio Hour 2002.11While the sound design requirements for Radio Hour were relatively modest, it did involve the conception and construction of several scenic prop microphones to hide my use of modern wireless transmitters. These prop shells were based on the venerable RCA 44 ribbon microphone, an icon of radio's golden era, and were designed for stage durability and low wireless interference. |
Blackbirds was an internationally touring musical review celebrating the breakthrough black talents of the Harlem renaissance, and featured a fantastic cast of triple threat performers. I served as the original production sound designer and engineer, and was fortunate to work with decent equipment and plenty of rehearsal time. This was also my first use of early earset lavaliers, much to director Marion Caffey's dismay until he heard them, and I was extremely impressed. |
Blackbirds of Broadway 1999.06Below are a few samples recorded during live shows directly from the sound mixing console.

Once On This Island 1995.11Island was my last lighting design with John Glenn at the original Barksdale Tavern before its renovation, and I was only somewhat satisfied with the cues I wrung out of the ridiculously rudimentary equipment. This show still surprisingly won Richmond Times Dispatch 1996 Critic's Choice Award for Best Musical Lighting, which just goes to prove that an artist should never blame their tools. |
