Gordon Haab 1976-

Gordon Haab began composing music at the age of twelve and has been focused on this craft since. Gordon studied music composition at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1994 through 2000. While there, he studied privately with Allan Blank, Doug Richards, Dika Newlin, and Peter Knell. Having studied with such diverse composers, Gordon's compositional language has become very broad. He has been commissioned to compose music for numerous musicians in styles that range from jazz to modern art music and even in certain instances rock. Gordon was a founding member, trombonist, and composer for the Richmond based Big Band, "The Devils Workshop". He has also written music for members of the Richmond Symphony.

Currently, Gordon resides in Los Angeles, CA and is writing music for film. While there he was selected as one of fifteen composers to attend a one-year graduate program for film scoring at the University of Southern California, where he has had the opportunity to study with such composers as David Raksin who composed music for Charlie Chaplin and such films as "Laura", and "Forever Amber", and with Chris Young, who has composed music for numerous horror films such as the "Hellraiser" series. Gordon has also had the opportunity to record his music for film on twelve occasions at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. Gordon won first place in the BMI Film composers competition, 2002.

Gordon is also a founding member and composer for the L.A. based film/multimedia composing house, "Transplant Media". Transplant Media has become a diverse company devoted to composing music for film, video games, internet services, and television shows and commercials. Gordon has also formed a partnership with his former professor from VCU, Peter Knell, to write music for independent art films in LA. Gordon was currently internationally selected as one of four composers to attend the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestral Jazz Music Festival, this summer (2002). There he will have the opportunity to compose music for a ninety-piece orchestra comprised of jazz and classical musicians from around the world. Also, he will have the opportunity to work, one on one, with composers in LA such as, Jerry Goldsmith, and Jack Smalley. Here, he will also have the opportunity to have his music performed in concert at the Hollywood Bowl, along side of Jerry Goldsmith.

Gordon is also active as a trombonist, and having been a former teacher, and now colleague of Andrew Nicholls's, was commissioned by Andrew to write a new piece for Trombone and Piano.
