Mark Twain's "The War Prayer" Throughout his life, Mark Twain incorporated political themes in his writings. Especially in his later years, his field of concern became more than American. It was global. By 1900 he was an outspoken opponent of England's involvement in the Boer War in South Africa and the United States' involvement in the Spanish-American War in the Philippines. Five years later, he wrote a strong essay against war in general. "The War Prayer" seems to have a life of its own, returning again and again with renewed relevance and power. Read in its entirety The War Prayer. |
