Reading data with list input

Input statement (list input style) INPUT variable-name [$] ... variable-name [$];

Notes

• At least one blank separates fields
• Fields are read in same order as in buffer
• Missing values indicated by a placeholder (.)
• No embedded blanks in character values
• Characters variables have default length of 8 bytes
• Only standard character or numeric data
• The optional dollar-sign ($) specifies a character variable
