Rules for SAS names:
Make up your own names for your SAS datasets and variables. Names must conform to these rules:
- up to 255 characters (prior to V8
the requirement was up to 8 characters),
- start with a letter, and
- contain only letters, numbers, or underscores ( _ ).
- be mnemonic (mean something)
- not be all in upper case (because it is harder to read)
