Dr. Klenke received his BSEE from the Virginia Military Institute in 1982. He served four years in the United States Navy as a Civil Engineer Corps officer. During his Navy career he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and received the Navy Achievement Medal and the Meritorious Unit Citation. Dr. Klenke received his MSEE in 1989 and his Ph.D.(Electrical Engineering) in 1993 from the University of Virginia.

Dr. Klenke is currently an Associate Professor and Interim Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. His research interests include, VLSI systems design, system-level performance and hybrid modeling, and parallel ATPG algorithms. He is a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi and is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a member of the IEEE Computer Society.

Conducted research in the areas of parallel ATPG algorithms, high speed memory controller design, and system level design techniques. Served as an instructor for graduate and undergraduate courses. Assisted in developing a new undergraduate Computer Engineering courses. Served as Co-principal Investigator on research contracts.

Served as Resident Officer in Charge of Construction, Naval Radio Station, Sugar Grove, WV, 1984-1987. Managed construction contracting office responsible for over 5.5 million dollars worth of construction contracts. Served as Assistant Facilities Division Director of the Naval Supply Center, Norfolk, VA, 1983-1984. Assisted in directing division of over 60 personnel. Responsible for operation of Center after hours as Command Duty Officer.
