Multi-scale modeling of ventilator-induced lung inflammation
Abstract
Mechanical ventilation is needed in patients whose respiratory systems fails to achieve gas exchange function. However, mechanical ventilation itself gives rise to lung inflammation. In order to decrease ventilator-induced inflammation, we are developing and experimentally validating an age dependent multi-scale mathematical model for ventilated lung. In this talk we will discuss the multi-scale implementation of this model and preliminary results from the organ, tissue and cellular level models.
