Significance

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a major public health issue today’s society. It is common for CMV to infect an unborn baby from the mother’s infected blood through the placenta. This is especially dangerous because it can lead to various long-term health issues, such as hear and vision loss. Congenital CMV is responsible for many cases of disability found in newborn babies. There are currently not any vaccines available to the public that can prevent the transmission of CMV from mother to child
