How do I approach
the problem sets?

I remember thinking then that I would never be able to do
problems like the ones on Problem Set 1... Now, although I know that I
don't usually get the most correct answer, I feel that when I do get an
answer it is somewhat correct if I can justify it and if I know how I got
it.

The problem solving emphasis was hard to get used to at first,
but looking back I think it was a very good way to learn genetics. People
complain about the class being hard, but I think it would be much harder
if we had to learn just plain facts.

I think that as the course went on, the problem sets seemed
more manageable. In the beginning, they were so overwhelming that they
seemed impossible. Lately they have seemed to be easier to figure out what
the question is asking and what you are looking for in the answer.

My ability to solve problems has greatly improved. At the
beginning of the semester I would have been frustrated by the problems
asked, but now I feel I can identify the important information and produce
a reasonable answer.

I like when the problems make you feel like you are solving
a mystery or are a lawyer or something like that.

I took genetics in order to learn more about the inner workings
of DNA, RNA, and the genome. I did not take this class in order to learn
to better problem solve, which could have been better served by taking
a class in the math department...
