Questionnaire on: Crick (1958) and the coding problem
(please press SUBMIT button when finished)
Fall 2018

My advice on the matters for the day (as listed in the calendar):

  • Crick (1958) and its companion: The article and its companion is the main event for today. Read the parts that are of greatest interest.

  • Problem Set 5: You might want to take a look at Problem 6 before coming to class. It's confusing, and it may help to get your confusion in order so that you know how to resolve it in class.

I. Basic Information

A. Your name
II. Old business

(Why not start with a clean slate?)

III. Crick (1958)

A. How far have you gotten in the companion to Crick (1958)?

Consider how comfortable you are with the following topics regarding protein synthesis:

  • The simplifying and explanatory power of the sequence hypothesis
  • The nature of ribosomes as they are understood today
  • The 1950's view of the role of ribosomes in protein synthesis
  • The adaptor hypothesis and the need for something like tRNA
  • Different types of RNA
  • Different kinds of genetic codes: (non)overlapping, different lengths, degeneracy
  • Crick's comma-less code
With this in mind, how would class time best be spent to suit your needs?

IV. Miscellaneous
