• Research proposal (P): Each proposal justifies and describes a single experiment aimed at addressing a small part of a large and significant questionof how something works at the molecular level. The aim is depth, getting to the bottom of an experiment to the extent that the presenter can explain the principles behind all techniques used and how the techniques contribute to the experiment. Each proposer has been mentored by a member of the VCU research community. Here's an example.
   
• Translation of a research article (T): The goal is to make a research article comprehensible to a general audience, not in the matter of a news article that focuses on the results and their significance. Instead, translations focus on the workings of the experiments (at least one of which is molecular in nature) -- not what we know but how we know it. Here's an example.

You can see general advice that was given regarding how to write a research proposal and how to give a presentation. Each presentation will be about 7-8 minutes, with the same time for questions.
