Protein threading
Applying structural information from one protein to another
Exploring the Structure of Your Mutant Protein
Well, there's still hope. The UDP glucose dehydrogenase from your organism figures to have a similar three dimensional structure as the enzyme from Streptococcus pyogenes. If you could somehow superimpose the sequence of your protein on the known structure of the S. pyogenes sequence, then you could identify where in the structure are potential sites for mutations that would stop precipitation.
That's a big if.
How do you apply known structural information from one protein
to the amino acid sequence of a similar protein?
