Gödel, Escher, and Bach (Spring 2001)
Course at a Glance: Overview and Honor Code
Overview
-
The course is a guided tour through part of the book,
Gödel,
Escher, and Bach, by Douglas Hofstadter.
-
The book has two themes:
-
Whether logical systems can perceive truth accurately and
completely
-
Whether machines can be made to think in creative ways.
-
Only the first theme is addressed in this course, but that's
plenty.
-
The strategy of the course is to focus on Study
Questions and Problem Sets.
-
Check the Calendar daily.
You'll also find there a list of topics to
be covered.
Honor Code
-
You are encouraged to meet with others in the class (or outside
the class) to figure out the reading, study questions, and problem sets.
In fact, we'll try to make it easy for you to do so.
-
Problems and other assignments related to exams, however,
are not to be discussed with any person except the instructors.
