What do those engineers do?
Abstract:
Using a case study from a sabbatical spent in industry, we discuss issues faced by mathematicians in research labs. The case involved mathematical problems arising from a wireless transmission scheme known as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing. No background in engineering is required: we will define all the needed terminology and work through a simple example in detail. We conclude with a list of open problems.
