artist / designer / educator
Originally from Hampton Roads, Angela Corpuz was born and raised in Virginia. She earned her BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Graphic Design at Old Dominion University and is currently working toward her MAE with licensure in Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Angela's current research interests include design in art education, violence in art education, and care in the art classroom. Her passion for art education grew from a life-changing volunteer experience working with children at the d'ART Center in Norfolk, Virginia. From volunteer to summer art camp instructor, her art education career began at the d’ART Center. While working towards her master's degree, she has the immense privilege of working with the VCU Art of Nursing Program and the VCU Creative Arts Day Camp. Her personal artwork explores themes of progression, introspection, and the deeply personal construction of identity through both real-lived experiences and self-invention. While as a designer, her work centers on conceptual framework through the creative design process and application of design aesthetics. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, wandering museums, tending to her orchids, and dabbling in Pinterest-inspired DIY projects!
From charcoal portraits to steel sculpture, Angela works in a variety of different media to explore themes of progression, introspection, and the construction of identity.
Angela's design work centers on conceptual framework through the creative design process and application of design aesthetics with an emphasis on craftsmanship.
