Abstract. Cellular automata models have been used to model many aspects of bulk water. These include the structure, encoded into the fractions of relative binding states of individual molecules. With these fractions it is possible to correlate through regression analyses, the contributions of these states to several physical properties of bulk water. This is the first time that this has been accomplished, where before, all properties of water were related to the measured temperature, another physical property. Other attributes of water, discovered from the CA models include the possibility of there being formed pathways, chreodes, in the water from the hydrophobic effect. This creates the possibility of guided passage of molecules on the surface of proteins. A consequence of this theory was a theory proposed, of the mechanism of action of volatile anesthetic agents and a new theory on the origin of sleep.
